Thoughts on "The Princess and the Frog".

Fri Dec 11, 2009, 10:16 PM
This is a movie I've been anticipating for a while. Mostly because the people who did "Aladdin" directed it. But the main reason I've been so anxious for this one is because it's the first Disney movie to go back to 2D animation in almost a decade (last one I remember was the extremely funny "The Emperor's New Groove"). Does it live up to expectaions? Read and find out.

The movie takes place in New Orleans, Louisianna. The main character and new Disney princess Tiana is working as a waitress who hopes of one day opening her own restaraunt. The male lead is Prince Naveen of the fictional country Maldonia. Or as I like to call him, "the only Disney prince with a well-rounded personality" (I don't treat Aladdin as a prince, so he doesn't count). Naveen is drawing attention to himself, so he attracts the attention of the film's villian, voodoo witch doctor Facilier. Faciler manages to entice Naveen into his store, where he casts a charm on him which turns him into a frog. Naveen goes to Tiana thinking she's a princess, and offers to grant her a wish with his vast riches if she kisses him into a human again. But as it turns out, Tiana's not a princess (not yet anyways, hehe;)), so she gets tranformed into a frog as well. Then the story becomes them trying to become human again. Along the way, they meet a cast of loveable characters like Louis, the jazz-trumpeting gator who dreams of performing with the big boys; Ray, a cajun firefly; and Mama Odie who plays the role of the Fairy Godmother.

Overall, this was a great movie (9/10), and I seriously can't wait until Disney gets their common sense back to make more Disney movies in traditional 2D animation. Screw the Disney live-action and Disney CG that isn't from Pixar. Give us hand-drawn!!!

You're welcome:)
What did you use to draw it?
:iconxxchels922xx:
I used various brushes in Photoshop set to different opacities to gve it that painted look. There was one brush that was like a dry brush and I used that one a lot for the shading/textures.

It looks good. I've seen a movie poster for Coraline with a similar look. It has Coraline standinding in the middle with a black shadow of the Other Mother behind Coraline with her hands draped on Coraline's shoulders with the tagline "Oh. My. God."
